Ashwaubenon (WFRV) – 17 local bands signed on to play all day Sunday for relief in Haiti. The ‘Musicians United For Haiti’ event began at 11am and runs until 10:30 at night.

10 traditional bands and 7 acoustic bands are playing at Tom Dick and Harry’s located at 835 Potts Avenue in Ashwaubenon.

The event was organized by musicians of Northeast Wisconsin. Event coordinators will donate all proceeds to the American Red Cross International Relief Fund set up for Haiti.

Nearly 3 weeks ago a 7.0 earthquake rocked killing 200,000 people. One-million Haitians are still homeless after the natural disaster. Many still lack food and clean drinking water.

“It’s been a whirl –not a lot of sleep” event organizer Missy Kreuger tells Channel 5’s Hilary Golston. The group planned the event in under 2 weeks, but Kreuger says she and other ‘United’ directors felt compelled to act. “Watching the TV, you just kind of sit there” Kreuger says. “We should do something.”

The event featured big local names like Boogie & The Yo-yo’z as well as Boxkar. A donation of $10 is requested. Kids 12 and under get in free.
