Firefighters’ Bucket Brigade Spotlight on Bruce Brzeczkowski

When local fire departments heard the Red Cross needed help raising funds they stepped up to support the efforts. Local firefighters and Red Cross volunteers have partnered together to ask the community to “invest in the positive” at the Firefighter’s Bucket Brigade for the Red Cross on Thursday, May 27, from 5pm to 8pm. These dedicated partners, that support their neighbors in times of disaster, are partnering up to ask their community to be Heroes during this fundraiser.

We always want to know more about our heroes and partners, so we talked to Bruce Brzeczkowski, Captain and Secretary for the Pulaski Fire Department. He’s been with the Fire Department for about twenty years.

When did you know you wanted to be a firefighter? I knew basically out of high school. We had a fire back when I was a senior in high school. I knew then that it was something I wanted to help the community out with after seeing what they did. I just want to help people. That’s my main goal.

What do most people not know about your job? They see us on the fire scene but there is a lot of clean up after and a lot of things behind the scenes that make the Fire Department run including many hours of training that go in to being a volunteer firefighter.

What are you most proud of? I’m most proud of being on the department with the other guys, the relationship built with other members and helping the community. You hate to see anybody have a fire but we work together to help people out.

Why are you volunteering to participate in the Firefighters’ Bucket Brigade? The Red Cross helps us out when we need them. We appreciate the good job they do and the timely manner they do it in.

What have you learned about the Red Cross by working with them? How much dedication and time they put in, which means a lot to us.

Who’s your Hero? And why? Good question. I looked up to Fire Chief Frank Wichalz, who has passed on. I looked up to him quite a bit because of the hours he put in and the commitment he had to the fire department. I don’t really have a hero in particular. I have always had a lot of respect for him and a lot of respect for our chiefs and other members of the department.

Thank you Bruce for your time and dedication
